PE – Intro to Strength Training The goal of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to learn proper strength training techniques and understand the appropriate progression of a fitness program. Students will work in the areas of muscular strength, endurance, and mobility. Students will: Peer Assistance Learning PE (PAL PE) PAL PE is a physical education course designed for students who may benefit from a combination of differentiated instruction and peer assistance in the Physical Education setting. This course provides a fun and inclusive atmosphere in which all students will learn about and experience health, fitness, and recreational activities as well as social and interpersonal development. PAL PE also supports the development of leadership skills for all students and empowers all students to foster an inclusive environment school-wide. Students involved in the Best Buddies program will receive first priority in the scheduling process. Students will: PE – Advanced Strength Training The goal of this course is to provide students an opportunity to continue advancing their strength training knowledge, techniques and movements. Students will be exposed to the following Components of Fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, and mobility. The skills learned in this course are meant to build upon previous knowledge and skills gained in the Intro to Strength Training course. Students will: PE – Team Sports The goal of this course is to establish an understanding of a variety of team sports while promoting a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. This course exposes students to different pathways to participate in physical activity. Skills, techniques, and fundamentals of each sport will be emphasized. All outdoor activities are weather-permitting. Possible course activities include volleyball, football, basketball, soccer, frisbee games, team handball, and floor hockey. Students will: PE – Individual Sports The goal of this course is to establish an understanding of a variety of individual sports while promoting a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. This course exposes students to different pathways to participate in physical activity. Skills, techniques, and fundamentals of each sport will be emphasized. All outdoor activities are weather-permitting. Possible course activities include: golf, tennis, archery, disc golf, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, and yard games. Students will: PE – Warrior/Wolf Fit The goal of this course is to offer students a fitness program involving a variety of aerobic activities to enhance their cardiovascular fitness. Students will gain the skills and knowledge needed to maintain fitness levels post-high school. Activities can include HIIT workouts, circuit training workouts, aerobics, kickboxing, and yoga. Students will: PE – Virtual There are no prerequisites, however, students may be placed in this course in order to meet graduation requirements, acceleration needs, and/or remediation needs. Students who sign up for this course must have a full academic schedule or plan to graduate early. This is an online physical education class focusing on the individual needs of the student to prepare for lifelong wellness. This course will consist of three strands: 1) Physical Component; 2) Social/Experiential Component; 3) Academic Component. With teacher guidance, students will work to develop a personalized wellness program that fits their individual strengths, interests, and goals. Sports Officiating — Not a PE Credit NOTE: This course provides students with an elective credit, not a PE credit. Students will learn the skills needed to become a sports official using RefReps curriculum. Students will study the rules and techniques for officiating basketball, volleyball, and baseball games through theoretical and practical applications. By the end of the course, students will be granted the opportunity to take officials’ licensure exams with the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) free of charge. IHSAA and IGHSAU allow high school students who score 75% or higher on their exam the right to take on real officiating roles in sub-varsity and junior high contests as well as community sports programs. Students in 9th-12th grades may request a PE Waiver for the school year. If approved, this waives the requirement that the student take a Physical Education course during the school year.
