Intro to Theatre Arts Introduction Theatre Arts is an introductory course in the fundamentals of theatre. The course provides students with an overview of many different aspects of theatre as a performance art. Students will read scripts, explore characters, perform, and gain an understanding of how theatre impacts society. This course is the prerequisite for Acting & Directing Styles, Literature & Playwriting, and Theatre History: Stages through the Ages. Acting & Directing Styles This dynamic course will explore the diverse world of acting and directing techniques. Students will explore a range of acting styles and learn how to adapt their performance to suit different genres. By studying various directorial approaches, students will gain hands-on experience with bringing scripts to life. Theatre Lit. & Playwriting Playwright (n.): one who crafts plays. Students will study the works of renowned playwrights, dissect plays from various eras and cultures, and gain insight into the evolution of dramatic storytelling. Class playwrights will then craft compelling characters, dialogue, and narratives. By the end of this course, students will be well equipped to bring their unique voice to the stage through playwriting. Theatre History Embark on a journey through the rich and vibrant history of theatre. Students will explore the evolution of theatre from its ancient origins to contemporary productions, tracing the development of theatrical forms, styles, and movements around the world. Students will have a comprehensive understanding of how theatre has evolved over time, providing a deeper appreciation for the art form, and its cultural significance. Technical Theatre: Costumes/Make-Up In this hands-on class, students will explore costume construction/design and makeup artistry. This course is tailored to developing student creativity and craftsmanship through sewing and makeup effects to bring characters to life in a visually captivating and authentic way. This includes sewing and tailoring costumes and applying special makeup effects. Technical Theatre: Lights & Sound Lights: GO! Roll sound. In this hands-on class, students will explore theatrical lighting and sound. Students will hang, focus, and program. Students will create mood, atmosphere, and storytelling through various lighting techniques and soundscapes. This includes: hanging and focusing lights, selecting gels and gobos, programming and operating boards, and sound editing. Technical Theatre: Scenery & Props In this hands-on class, students will explore set and prop construction and design. They will build a variety of scenic elements and explore different stagecraft techniques. This includes drafting, carpentry, scenic painting, and prop fabrication, allowing students the opportunity to explore real-world applications of construction skills for the theatre.
