We are hoping this change will serve as an additional safety measure to ensure all students are arriving at school as planned.

The families of students whose absences have not been verified with a parent/guardian by 9:30 a.m. will receive an automated phone call placed to the primary (home) phone and parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in PowerSchool. The building secretary may not have been able to get to your message before 9:30 a.m. or your call was made while the automated calls were already in progress.

No. Parents will not receive an email message. Only phone calls/messages are being sent to the primary (home) phone and parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in PowerSchool.

SchoolMessenger will call the primary (home) phone and parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in PowerSchool.

The primary (home) phone number listed in PowerSchool does not need to be a landline to receive a notification. These automated calls will also be sent to parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in PowerSchool.

Please contact the attendance office of your student’s school to verify the absence.

Yes, the system will call the students’ primary (home) phone and parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in PowerSchool.

Parents will receive a phone call to the primary (home) phone and parent/guardian cell phone numbers listed in PowerSchool. If these numbers have changed, please update your records with your building secretary. Please note that this number is used for all SchoolMessenger notifications. Changes to this phone number will also affect how you are contacted regarding messages about inclement weather and school emergencies.

When an emergency notification is sent, families will be contacted by voice call (phone), email and SMS text. Many families will receive all three types of notifications. This is to ensure all families are reached in the event of an emergency.

SchoolMessenger pulls data from PowerSchool nightly. This means it could be 24 hours before SchoolMessenger’s contact information is updated. If it has been longer than 24 hours and you still did not receive the notification please verify your information is correct in PowerSchool by emailing or calling your building secretary.

No. Families who choose not to receive SMS text notifications will be notified by voice call (phone) and email.

Student cell phone information can also be entered into PowerSchool. If the student has completed the “opt-in” process for their cell phone number they will also receive the emergency notification. If you would like to add a student’s cell phone number to PowerSchool, please contact your building secretary.

There is no fee from Waukee Community School District and/or SchoolMessenger for SMS text messages, however, recipients may be charged for receiving district messages depending on the type of monthly plan they have with their wireless provider.

Subscribe to the system from the cell phone you would like to use by texting “subscribe” to 68453. You will then need to email or call your building secretary to update the new cell phone number in PowerSchool.

This means your wireless carrier has not turned on the short code feature on your cell phone. To have this feature turned on you will need to contact your wireless provider. Short codes are 5 or 6 digit numbers that are assigned to businesses who desire to send bulk SMS messages. All messages sent through the system will display the short code as the sending number (not a 10-digit phone number as in the case of mobile-to-mobile messaging). To obtain a short code, companies must go through an approval process by every major wireless carrier that ensures that they abide by their policies for sending SMS messages. Once short code has been activated on your phone subscribe to the system from the phone you would like to use by texting “subscribe” to 68453. You will then need to email or call your building secretary to update the new cell phone number in PowerSchool.

Student contact information is collected from parents/guardians during registration. At this time, PowerSchool cannot display contact information in the parent portal. If you would like to verify your information please email or call your building secretary.

Parents of current Waukee Community School District students cannot unsubscribe from phone calls.

Data is pulled from PowerSchool into SchoolMessenger at 6:30 a.m. SchoolMessenger calls are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. This means if you make a payment after data has been imported, you may still receive a call.

A low balance notification means the student’s account still has funds available, but it will be time to deposit additional funds soon. A negative balance notification will be issued when funds are no longer available and the account now has a negative balance. Phone calls will not be made to families with low balances.

Parents can set their low balance notifications using SchoolCafe or RevTrak.

A student who receives free/reduced meals may have a negative balance if they choose to purchase an extra milk or a la carte menu options. A la carte menu options are not included in a free/reduced meal. If funds have not been deposited into a student’s account and they purchase an a la carte menu item, this would cause their account to go negative.

Yes. SchoolCafe allows parents to view their child’s nutrition account, monitor/set spending limits, and view account history.

Parents/Guardians may send cash or check made payable to Waukee Nutrition Department to the student’s school. Electronic payments using credit or debit can be made online in RevTrak.

Parents will receive a phone call to the primary phone (home) number that is listed in PowerSchool. If this number has changed, please update your records with your building secretary. Please note that this number is used for all SchoolMessenger notifications. Changes to this phone number will also affect how you are contacted regarding messages about inclement weather and school emergencies.

Emails are sent to the primary (first) email address in PowerSchool. If you would like these notifications to go to a different account or your email address has changed, please contact your building secretary. Please note that this email is used for all SchoolMessenger notifications. Changes to this email address will also affect how you are contacted regarding messages about inclement weather and school emergencies.
