Board Appoints Terry Hurlburt and Stephanie Angelino to New Admin Positions

The Waukee Board of Education approved the recommendation to appoint Terry Hurlburt as a new associate superintendent and Stephanie Angelino as the principal for Brookview Elementary at the May 25, Board meeting.

Terry is currently the principal at Brookview and Stephanie is an assistant principal at Brookview and Woodland Hills. Terry will be replacing Cindi McDonald in her current role of associate superintendent as she was named the next superintendent of schools earlier this month. Terry and Stephanie will officially assume their new duties on July 1, 2016.

Terry brings with him 19 years of education experience. Terry started his career as a fifth grade teacher at West Des Moines Community School District. In 2002, Terry earned his Masters of Education (Principal Licensure) from Drake University. In 2005, he transitioned to administration and joined Waukee Community School District (WCSD) as the assistant principal for Eason and Brookview. For the last 11 years Terry has served as principal at Brookview. During his time at WCSD, he has been recognized as SAI’s 2010 Elementary Principal of the Year and led Brookview in becoming a Solution Tree Model PLC School and the first Leader in Me Lighthouse School in Iowa.

“Waukee has always been an educationally progressive district while remaining grounded in the importance of building relationships and establishing a collaborative culture in our schools and community,” said Terry. “My experiences have helped prepare me for my new role and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with students, staff, families and community members across the entire district.”

Stephanie’s educational journey began at the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Spanish Teaching. She received her Masters of Education (Principal Licensure) from Iowa State University. Prior to coming to WCSD, she taught for five years as an elementary teacher at Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District. For the last three years, Stephanie has been serving as an assistant principal for Waukee Community School District.

“The opportunity to work with Brookview teachers, families, and students in this new role is very exciting and a great privilege. I’m looking forward to continuing and strengthening the strong culture of leadership and learning,” Stephanie said.

The process of filling the assistant principal position at Brookview and Woodland Hills Elementary will begin immediately.
