Staff Members Compete in 10-Week Wellness Challenge
For the fourth year in a row, Waukee Community School District staff participated in a 10-week wellness challenge. 149 staff members formed 19 teams from 11 buildings to engage in this friendly competition, seeing who could log the most minutes of activity and/or lose the most weight between January 25 and April 1.
After ten weeks, staff members logged 352,486 minutes of activity and lost 312.5 pounds! Waukee Middle School Shape Shifters earned the activity team prize by logging more than 64,000 minutes of activity. NOBLTFORME earned the weight loss team prize by shedding 83.3 pounds.
The district’s community education department oversees the wellness committee. The committee consists of at least one staff member from each district building and works throughout the year to provide wellness opportunities to increase the overall health of all staff.
“Helping our staff make positive changes in their own personal health is an investment we hope will help contribute to a healthier workplace and community,” community education director, Jeff Longman, said.
“Jeans Day” coupons and other prizes were awarded to teams and individuals who participated in the challenge. The wellness committee and Waukee staff would like to thank the following area organizations and businesses for donating prizes for the challenge:
- Jethro’s BBQ
- Kris’ Hot Yoga & Hot Barre
