Kaitlyn Sheuermann- New Waukee Dietician

Recently, the Waukee Community School District (WCSD) hired dietician Kaitlyn Scheuermann. The role of Scheuermann in the WCSD will be menu planning, accommodating special diet needs and creating special diet menus for students who are, for example, gluten free.

“Families with children that require a special diet are more hesitant when it comes to purchasing hot lunches,” said Kaitlyn. “Having a dietician means they will have someone on their side that will help guide them and look at ingredients and food labels with a new set of eyes. This makes everyone more comfortable with their children purchasing lunches in the school cafeteria.”

Kaitlyn is from Madrid, Iowa and discovered her love for food and nutrition through being actively involved with 4-H for nine years. She graduated from Iowa State University in 2016 with degrees in Dietetics and Family Consumer Science with minors in Culinary Science and Spanish.

In college, Kaitlyn was active in Collegiate 4-H, Culinary Science Club, Student Dietetic Association, and the SHOP – a student operated food pantry on campus. Additionally, she worked at Hy-Vee as a Dietician Assistant and as a Dietary Aide at a local nursing home.

“My philosophy on nutrition is to enjoy and build a healthy relationship with food,” said Kaitlyn. “I believe that healthy food can be delicious, and I have a passion for teaching others and sharing my love for food and nutrition.”Sheuermann
