The District Participates in National School Lunch Week

Waukee Community School District celebrated National School Lunch Week (NSLW) Oct. 9-13, 2017, with a variety of activities throughout the week hosted by the nutrition department. This years theme was “Recipes for Success.”

The activities included a visit from Dole’s Bobby Banana at the elementary schools, parents visiting the lunchroom and South Middle School students taste testing pizza.

“Providing lunch and breakfast to our students has impacts both inside and outside of the classroom,” said WCSD dietician, Kaitlyn Scheuermann. “This week is a time to show our students and our families why school meals are a healthy and cost-effective option.”

NSLW was created in 1962 by former President John F. Kennedy to celebrate and promote the National School Lunch Program. More than 30 million students eat school lunch every day and more than 5 billion annually.
