Waukee High School Junior Hima Joseph Receives Perfect Score on ACT

Waukee High School junior Hima Joseph recently received a 36 on the ACT.

Less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a composite score of 36. This score is an average of the four tests: English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is based on a scale of 1-36.HimaJoseph 200x300

“My dad looked up the scores, and I thought he was kidding at first. When I realized he was serious, I was really excited especially because it meant I did not have to take it again,” Joseph said.

The Waukee Community School District(WCSD) has helped Joseph find her passion when looking at what field she wants to enter in the future.

“I am leading towards biomedical engineering or something biology-related. I think Honors Biography helped as well as the engineering classes I have taken through the WCSD,” Joseph said.

In her free time, Joseph enjoys swimming, marching band and being apart of the Des Moines Youth Symphony.
Waukee High School students as a whole continue to perform better than the state average on the ACT. 418 students from the WCSD graduating class of 2017 took the ACT. The average composite score was 23.6 compared to the state average of 21.9.

Throughout the year Waukee Community Education offers ACT prep courses. Students interested in registering for these classes can find out more information at www.waukeeschools.org/our-district/community-education/
