The Waukee Community School District Board of Education approved a recommendation to hire Angie Morrison as the new chief financial officer (CFO) at the June 11 board meeting.

Morrison will replace Lora Appenzeller-Miller, who resigned to pursue a new employment opportunity. Morrison will officially begin her new role on July 1, 2018.

“I am excited to be part of a progressive district that is constantly expanding opportunities for students,” Morrison said. “I have a passion for education and look forward to doing my part to continue to move Waukee Community School District forward.”

Morrison brings with her 21 years of school finance experience, a BA in Accounting and a School Business Official (SBO) Authorization. During her career, she has been actively involved in the Iowa School Business Officials Association (IASBO) and received the IASBO Professional Leadership Award in 2016. At the state level, she has had the opportunity to participate in several Department of Education advisory committees including the Finance Roundtable and Professional Growth Committee.

Morrison is currently the business department manager at Linn-Mar Community Schools where she helps oversee a budget of more than $135 million. Linn-Mar Community School district is the 12th largest school district in Iowa serving 7,436 students.

“Every dollar we spend needs to have a public purpose. The taxpayers entrust us with their dollars to do what is best for the students in the district. I take this task very seriously,” Morrison said. “Transparency with the public as well as educating them on the proper use of funds is vital in building trust and teamwork within the community.”
