Waukee High School Wins DM Register All-Sports Trophy for the Third Time in Four Years


The Waukee High School (WHS) Athletic Department has won the coveted Des Moines Register All-Sports Trophy for the 2017-2018 sports season. Schools are awarded points for their state place finish in all 21 interscholastic sports. Only the top eight schools in each sport’s state championship series receive points. The school that tabulates the most points throughout the year wins the “All Sport” honor. WHS also won the award for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years.

Led by state championships in Girls Track, Boys Soccer and Girls Golf and top 8 finishes in 15 of the 21 sports, WHS totaled 85.5 points to outscore runner-up West Des Moines Valley by 11.5 points (74). Iowa City West was third in the point standings with 72.

Waukee High School also won state championships in Coed Golf, Girls Track Pentathlon and Competition Cheerleading, as well as, a runner-up finish in Dual Wrestling. However, those sports are not recognized as sanctioned interscholastic state championships for this award.
