Lots 2 Love in Waukee Nutrition

Waukee Community School District celebrated National School Lunch Week October 15-18, 2018. This year’s theme, Lots 2 Love, encouraged students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about the school lunch program.

Waukee Nutrition Services staff showed their love for school lunch by dressing up as the most popular lunch menu item, breakfast. Lunch guests also were surprised by the Waukee High School Varsity Football and Cheerleading teams.

“There is a lot to love in school nutrition. We put the needs of our students first and provide them a full-service experience when they come into the lunchroom. Our staff works hard to provide a fun atmosphere and healthy food that tastes good and of course served up with a smile!” Billie Veach, Nutrition Purchasing/Food Production Manager said.

Waukee Nutrition Services prepares and serves about 8,000 nutritionally balanced, healthy meals to students every day.  All school meals meet federal nutrition standards by offering fruits and vegetables, serving whole grain-rich foods and limiting fat, calories and sodium. By the end of this school year, approximately 1.6 million lunches will be served in the Waukee Community School District.

National School Lunch Week is an opportunity to celebrate the time and dedication our nutrition staff put into preparing meals. Thank you for your service!
