Brookview Elementary recognized as a 2018 Leader in Me Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction

Lighthouse SealBrookview Elementary, the first Lighthouse School in Iowa, has now been recognized as a 2018 Leader in Me Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction. This acknowledgment was made possible by the staff and students at Brookview that achieved academic growth or proficiency.

A Lighthouse School is designed to focus around the 7 Habits. Out of the nine Lighthouse Schools in Iowa and 413 worldwide, Waukee Community School District is home to three of these schools. Waukee, Brookview, and Maple Grove Elementary School are certified Lighthouse Schools. Brookview Elementary was the first school in Iowa to receive their Lighthouse certification. The criteria to meet for the certification are firm and Brookview excelled well beyond the standards.

Leader in Me engages students and empowers them to act upon their leadership abilities and potential in their home and school. The staff goes through a considerable amount of training to ensure that they will be able to distribute their learning to their students. Studies have proven that the leadership model works and is effective for both the students and staff.

Brookview Elementary is continuously working to ensure that their students and staff can succeed both within and outside the walls of Brookview. Brookview’s pledge states, “I pledge to be a leader of integrity and character who is motivated to make a positive impact on the world around me.” The outstanding work of all staff and students at Brookview have made this all possible. Congratulations to Brookview staff and students on this distinctive award.
