Waukee Star Struck Show Choir Invitational and Jazz Choir Festival, Jan. 10-12
The Waukee Star Struck Show Choir Invitational and Jazz Choir Festival will fill Waukee High School, 555 SE University Ave., with hundreds of talented, hard-working, energetic students Thursday, Jan. 10, through Saturday, Jan. 12. This weekend is the kick off of the show choir season for Waukee’s 675 show choir performers and 80 band and crew members. Waukee’s three jazz choirs feature more than 40 singers.
Waukee’s Parade of Show Choirs will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, in the Waukee Field House. This night will feature all nine of Waukee’s show choirs for grades 7 through 12, including the debut performance of Waukee’s brand new all-women varsity show choir group, Nova. The Parade of Show Choirs is open to Waukee parents, students, friends, family and neighbors and serves as a major fundraiser for the Waukee Vocal Music Boosters, which supports curricular vocal music education K through 12 as well as the extra-curricular groups of show choir and jazz choir. Admission is a free-will donation.
Middle school show choirs from around the Des Moines metro area will perform 4:15 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in the Waukee Field House, followed by a performance by Waukee Soundcheck Jazz Choir and Awards. High school jazz choirs will compete in the Star Struck Festival in the Waukee High School Auditorium 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. Admission for both is $8 for students and $10 for adults. Admission for Jazz Choir only is $5 for both adults and students. And an All-Weekend Pass is $25 for adults and $20 for students. No activity passes are accepted.
High school show choirs from around the state will perform 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Waukee Field House, followed by awards and finals. High school jazz choirs will perform 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Waukee High School Auditorium. Admission of $8 for students and $10 for adults covers the daytime performances. Admission for Jazz Choir only is $5 for both adults and students. Admission for Saturday Finals only is $8 for both adults and students. A Saturday all-day pass is $16 for adults, $15 for students. No activity passes are accepted.
