Celebrate National School Counseling Week Feb. 4-8!

Waukee Middle School counselors Trudy Vande Kamp, Kristen Walker, and Jessica Dopheideare, with the help of APEX instructor Russ Goerend, are sharing a message about some of the many responsibilities school counselors perform each day. Waukee Community School District is honored to have 22 counselors serving our students and schools. If you see a school counselor this week, please take a moment to thank them for all they do.

Celebrate National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 4–8, 2019, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do.

The special week is a time to honor school counselors who implement comprehensive school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century. School counselors are committed to helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; working in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world; focusing on positive ways to enhance students’ social/emotional, educational and career development; and working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves.
