Warrior Girls Win First State Bowling Title


The Waukee Girls Bowling team captured the 2019 Class 3A State Bowling championship last Thursday at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.  The Warriors team score of 2855 was good enough to defeat runner up Muscatine by 20 pins (2835).  Ottumwa was third with a score of 2812.

The team placed four bowlers in the top 12 individually led by Senior Maddie Peterson who finished 5th with a two-game total of 404.  Morgan Marean followed in 6th place with a 403, Bri Hulgan was 8th (395) and Halie Marean finished 12th rolling a 391.  Lauren Daley and Kiarra Briggs rounded out the Warrior scoring placing 26th and 37th respectively.

It was the girls’ fourth appearance at the state tournament and first state title for Waukee in Bowling.  They also qualified in 2006, 2008 and 2012, their highest finish coming in  2012, when they finished fourth. The Waukee boys bowling team had an individual state qualifier in freshman Joe Jensen.  He placed 10th with a two-game score of 431.
