Board Discusses Secondary Feeder System
On March 6, 2019, the Waukee Board of Education held a special meeting to work on the second phase of the boundary process, the secondary feeder system.
As you recall, on January 14, the Board approved new elementary attendance boundaries based on the Board Revised Concept 1A Map. Those new boundaries will be effective in the fall of 2019 when the district’s ninth elementary school, Radiant, opens.
No decisions have been made about secondary attendance boundaries. At the March 11 Board meeting, three criteria were identified that the administration will use to provide a balanced approach when working with a committee (yet to be established) to determine the secondary feeder system. Those criteria include, but are not limited to; demographics, incomplete or complete feeder system, and enrollment projections.
In addition to the work being done on the boundaries, we are extending an invitation for you to suggest a name for Waukee’s second high school, which is phase one of the Naming/Branding process.
Phase two will be focused on branding (mascot, logo, colors). This phase will happen after secondary attendance center boundaries are determined and approved by our board of education. In an effort to involve the appropriate stakeholders, we will not begin phase two until we have approved secondary attendance center boundaries. This process is currently in progress and it is anticipated to be completed this summer.
You are invited to submit a name for the second high school, with rationale via this form through April 5, 2019.
More information about the boundary process can be found here.
Thank you for your continued support of Waukee Community School District.
