Board Approves Mascot and Colors for Northwest High School
First came the name, now it’s time for Waukee Northwest High School to get a mascot. We are proud to announce, Waukee Northwest High School’s official mascot will be the Wolves and the colors will be royal blue, silver, black, and white. The recommendation was approved by the Board of Education at tonight’s meeting.
The Waukee Community School District (CSD) announced the three mascot finalists on October 15 for the community to provide input on the new mascot and school colors. There were nearly 2,800 responses to the survey that went out to Waukee CSD staff and Northwest High School feeder families and students (grades 6-10).
We heard from students it was important to be different, but stand the test of time. The Wolves were chosen because of their uniqueness in the Des Moines area and are currently, the only Wolves in the state represented in 4A. The colors chosen were in the top seven colors submitted by our community and were chosen based on differentiating from other competing schools.
Thank you to our community for your support and interest in helping us create a visual identity and brand for Northwest High School. This is an exciting time to be in the Waukee Community School District as we pave the way for our future generation of students.
