Legislative Learning and Advocacy
Waukee Community School District is excited to bring legislative learning and advocacy opportunities to our parents and community. The topics that have been chosen are issues important to the students and families, as well as, priorities identified by the Board of Education. These discussions are intended to broaden conversations on the topics of School Finance, Youth Mental Health, Special Education, and English Learner Funding, and possible avenues for additional funding concepts for educating the increasing numbers of children with diverse needs in our rapidly growing school district.
Our proposed calendar includes:
- Saturday, January 25* -Understanding School Funding and the Impact on Programming for Waukee students
Waukee Middle School Media Center, 905 Warrior Lane, Waukee 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
- Please note this date was changed from January 11 due to predicted inclement weather.
- Saturday, February 22 – Understanding Youth Mental Health
Eason Elementary Commons, 605 SE Boone Drive, Waukee, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
- Saturday, April 4 – Understanding Learning Needs and Funding Challenges for Special Education and English Language Learners
Waukee High School Media Center, 555 SE University Avenue, Waukee, 11:30 am. – 12:30 p.m.
All three sessions are open to the public as parents and other members of the community have an opportunity to listen and describe their thoughts. District staff will be available to answer any district-specific questions that may arise. We have also invited local Legislators to attend the sessions, based on their availability.
