Waukee Jazz One honored in DownBeat Magazine

For the second consecutive year, Waukee Jazz One was honored in DownBeat Magazine for its 43rd Annual Student Music Awards. Waukee Jazz One was named one of three High School Winners in the Large Jazz Ensemble category for 2019.

“This is a tremendous honor for our students, of whom I could not be more proud,” said Chris Strohmaier, Band Director.

DownBeat Magazine was established in 1934 and since then, has been the preeminent resource for all things current in the jazz world. In 1977, DownBeat began recognizing the future of jazz performance and education by publishing a list of outstanding ensembles and soloists at the junior high, high school, and collegiate level. Programs from across the country are encouraged to apply with a list of Winners and Outstanding Performances published in the June edition of the magazine.
