Discussing Mental Health in Health 2 Class at Waukee High School

For students in Health 2 at Waukee High School, the learning options are endless.

“It’s important because these topics are always changing and it makes the most sense for them to pick their topics so they can learn what they are interested in and what they need to know,” says Tiffany Thomas-Killam a physical education and health teacher at Waukee High School.

Each semester, the students select five topics to study. This year they chose nutrition, media, stress relief, drugs and mental health.

“It’s really cool that the stigma for this younger generation of mental health, there isn’t as much stigma. They are a lot more open  talking about anxiety and depression,” says Thomas-Killam.
