Senior Spotlight: Ellie Huisman

This week for our senior spotlight, we will be highlighting Ellie Huisman!

Ellie quickly found a love for an amazing amount of extracurricular activities. She believes no students should hesitate when it comes to joining extracurriculars and speaks highly of the opportunities and the friends they have brought her.

She has been a part of the Varsity Dance Team for four years, Track and Field for four years with four years in the leadership group, Cross Country for four years with 2 years as a captain, Show choir for four years with 2 years as a Millennium Dance Captain, A Capella Choir, Random Acts of Kindness Club, Student Council, MVP, National Honor Society, and Silver Cord. She also was a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with honors.

With this amount of extracurriculars, time management skills are not unfamiliar to Ellie.

She says, “Being involved in so many activities, managing my time has been very important to me over the past few years. I do my best to prioritize my time and ensure that I can make it to as many performances and meets as possible. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices, but there is nothing I would rather do, because I have been able to do what I love!”

Ellie’s favorite part of Waukee High School is the amazing amount of opportunities she’s been able to pursue both academically and through extracurriculars. She’s incredibly grateful for the amazing teachers and coaches that she won’t be able to get anywhere else.

She says that homecoming week has always been a special week to remember throughout high school, even in a pandemic.

“Homecoming week has become one of my favorite times of the year. Even with the pandemic this year, we were able to have a reverse parade and it was a lot of fun to represent our school on the Homecoming Court. It was also a lot of fun to participate in the spirit days at school, dance at the Homecoming game, and make the most out of our last Homecoming week as one school!”

Ellie plans to attend Texas Christian University in the fall and study Business Information Systems.
