“This is Really Fun” – New Disc Golf Course Opens at Walnut Hills
A new sound is taking over PE class at Walnut Hills.
“I think this is really fun,” says 4th grader Kiran Choudhary.
This is the first week of outdoor disc golf for Walnut Hills students and they are already getting the hang of it.
“If you want it to go farther, let go at the right time,” says 4th grader Sean Hunter.
This brand new course has been built in the school’s back yard thanks to a group effort from a lot of people.
“We went to Dr. Carenza (Walnut Hills Principal), he thought it was a great idea to put things outside for our families to use,” says PE Teacher Chris Roberts. “Then we went to our PTO, with the grant and some of the funds they had, we were able to get our equipment.”
The course, the equipment and the brand new activity are all things our PE teachers are focusing on.
“Waukee is really lucky to have a lot of opportunities for our students,” says Roberts. “We want to introduce them to as much as possible because we know every student is completely different.”
Step one is learning to play in PE this week. Step two is getting the message of an awesome new disc golf course at school, home to our families.
“We want kids to go home and be excited, bring their parents over and use it on the weekends,” says Roberts.
Sun up to sun down, a new disc golf course at Walnut Hills gives kids another way to play.
“Buying a disc is an inexpensive way to be active,” adds Roberts. “With disc golf starting to grow more and more, there’s more opportunity for those kids to go out and play.”
Even though it’s only been a few days, these students are already anxious to improve at their school’s newest game.
“It feels really nice because when we are at recess, we get to practice too,” says Choudhary.
