Now Announcing – Leadership at Northwest High School *Pending Board Approval


Principal Announcement

Nick Ross, current Associate Principal at Northwest High School, will be the next Principal at Northwest High School starting July 1, 2022, pending Board approval on April 25.  Ross has served Waukee Community Schools for 10 years as a teacher and administrator. He was the Assistant Principal at Waukee High School for four years, and most recently helped open Northwest High School as the Associate Principal. Prior to Waukee Community School District, Ross served as a teacher and head football coach in Atlantic, Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Drake University and a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota. He resides in the Waukee District with his wife Natalie, also an educator in Waukee, and their three children.

Kim Tierney, current Principal at Maple Grove Elementary will be the Associate Principal at Northwest High School, pending Board approval on April 25, starting her new role on July 1, 2022. Tierney has been in her current position for eight years. Prior to Waukee Community School District, she was a Principal within the Denver Community School District, where she was named a National Distinguished Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Prior to her administrative roles, she served as a teacher and head volleyball coach within the Waukee Community School District. Tierney has degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University, and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at Drake University obtaining her Ed.D in Educational Administration with superintendent licensure.  She resides in Waukee with her husband Casey and their two children who are active within the Waukee Community School District.

We are excited for the future of Northwest High School under the leadership of Ross and Tierney. We look forward to filling Tierney’s role at Maple Grove Elementary, continuing the excellent example she has set forth in serving students, staff, and families.
