Waukee Elementary Students Find Balance at Sharpen the Saw Day

Waukee Elementary hosted its “Sharpen the Saw Day” event for students today. Sharpen the Saw is one of the 7 Habits through The Leader in Me, and it focuses on life balance. It encourages kids to find balance by taking care of their bodies through eating right, getting sleep, and exercising, spending time with family and friends, learning outside of school, and finding meaningful ways to help others.

The “Sharpen the Saw Day” event is a day where community volunteers come in and teach students about various ways to create balance in their lives. Through these experiences, students are also exposed to opportunities available outside of school. Students rotate through eight stations during the day and have the chance to experience a wide variety of activities. Some of the activities include dance, music, art, yoga, and soccer, along with presentations from the fire department, a magician, and many others.

What a day filled with fun, learning, and community connections. Thank you to all of the community volunteers that gave their time to be a part of this event for students!
