WCSD Receives State Grant for Local Food Purchases

WCSD recently received a Local Food for Schools Grant through the state of Iowa to support $4,000 in local produce purchases and $4,000 in local protein purchases. This grant will help support our district’s Harvest of the Month program and our Farm to School work. The funds are a cut of the $2.1 million that’s begin given out through the USDA’s Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program (LFS). Participating schools can use this money to purchase local, domestic, unprocessed, or minimally processed foods to help with the challenges of supply chain distribution.

Our Nutrition Department is excited to continue to bring delicious, local foods to students’ trays and support our Iowa community!
