Waukee High School Celebrates National Signing Day


Waukee High School held its annual National Signing Day celebration on February 1 to recognize athletes committing to future establishments. There were 20 athletes who signed and earned 44 varsity letters overall. They collectively won three conference championships and set 12 school records while qualifying for state and winning state titles in many activities.

Evan Schwickerath is signing to row at the University of Iowa. She is a 4-year varsity letter winner who has been competitively swimming for over 10 years. Schwickerath played a big part in winning the girls swim team’s back-to-back state championships.

Lily Gehling will be playing volleyball at Des Moines Area Community College. She is a 2-year varsity letter winner and was nominated for third-team all-conference. Gehling has led the volleyball team in team kills as their team captain.

Tanner Dinnebier is signing to play golf at the University of Northern Iowa. He is a 3-year varsity letter winner and was nominated for first-team all-state and all-tournament for 2 consecutive years. Dinnebier finished as the 5th ranked played in boys 4A golf in 2022.

Drew Pelton will be playing gold at Iowa Central Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and has shown tremendous leadership on the boys golf team. Pelton led the team with the number of team medalist honors and in eagles and pars for the 2022 season.

Jack Myszewski is signing to play golf at Iowa Central Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and was one of the core seniors leading the boys golf team to its 3rd place finish at state this year. Myszewski finished the 2022 season as a top-25 golfer in boys 4A golf.

Omaha Biliew will be playing basketball at Iowa State University. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and leads the team in average points per game (22.5). Biliew was selected to participate in the Nike Hoop Summit and Mcdonald’s All-American games.

Cooper Randall is signing to play basketball at Truman State University. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner for the boys basketball team. Randall was an honorable mention all-conference last year and earned first-team all-substate honors.

Luke Orton will be bowling at Luther College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner on the boys bowling team. Orton played a key role in winning the bowling state championship last year and is a crucial component to the team’s success this year.

Jack Hillis is signing to play soccer at Central College. He is a 3-year varsity letter winner on the boys soccer team and has been a 3-year academic all-conference winner. Hillis was selected for second-team all-conference and as a captain this past spring.

Isabella Webb will be running at Dordt University. She is a 4-year varsity letter winner for the girls cross country team and a 3-year varsity letter winner for the girls track and field team. Webb helped lead the cross country team in qualifying for state and finished top ten in many record books at WHS for fastest times.

Nicole Sabatino is signing to run at Loras College. She is a 3-year varsity letter winner for the girls track team and is a 2-time state qualifier in the shuttle hurdle relay. Sabatino was a member of the 7th fastest shuttle hurdle in school history and also was a member of the state-winning team in 2021.

Josie Moreland will be long jumping at the University of Northern Iowa. She is a 3-year varsity letter winner for the girls track team and is a two-time Drake Relays and all-state performer. Moreland took home the state title in long jump and marked the 2nd best jump in school history.

Brynn Herren is signing to play softball at Des Moines Area Community College. She is a 4-year varsity letter winner and has helped lead the Warriors to qualify for the last 3 state tournaments. Herren earned second-team central conference infielder and third-team all-state honors.

Lily Rand will be playing softball at Missouri Southern State University. She is a 2-year varsity letter winner and helped the Warriors qualify for the 2022 state tournament. Rand earned first-team central conference pitcher and second-team all-state honors.

Colin Driscoll is signing to play baseball at Des Moines Area Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and led the baseball team in 7 offensive categories. Driscoll was named first-team all-conference and second-team all-district.

Bryce Hoskinson will be playing baseball at Ellsworth Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and was a part of the state-qualifying team this past year. Hoskinson was also named as an honorable mention all-conference last year.

Connor MacAlpine is signing to play baseball at Ellsworth Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and was a part of the state-qualifying team last year. 

Lucas Struck will be playing football at Iowa Western Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and was named first-team all-district wide receiver. Struck will also represent WHS in the 2023 Iowa Shrine Bowl.

Blake Hauck is signing to play football at Iowa Western Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and played a fundamental role in rebuilding the football team after the split. Hauck led the team in total offense during the 2021 season.

Kaidan Ivory will be playing football at Iowa Western Community College. He is a 2-year varsity letter winner and was named first-team all-district as a defensive back. Ivory also represented WHS in the 2022 Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.
