Appreciating Our Waukee CSD Veterans


As we recognize Veterans Day, we proudly honor all veterans, including those who walk our hallways. Thank you for your dedication to our country and our school district. Your commitment, sacrifice, and courage inspire us all!

Below is a list of self-reported veteran staff members. It is not a comprehensive list of all veterans in the District.

Waukee CSD Veterans

Charles CrenshawCharles Crenshaw of Eason Elementary is a Persian Gulf War veteran. He served in the Navy for just under five years. He was stationed in La Maddalena, Italy, and Charleston, South Carolina.

 

 

 

 

Gary ClarkGary Clark of Waukee High School served in the U.S. Army from 1988 to 1991. He was assigned to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Bamberg, Germany, and deployed with that unit to the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait) for Operation Desert Storm (Persian Gulf War).

 

 

 

 

Joe Young

Joe Young works with our Nutrition Department at several different schools. He was in the Iowa Army National Guard at Camp Dodge. He deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm. His dad and five of his eight brothers are also veterans.

 

 

 

 

Suzanne Lubbers

Suzanne Lubbers is part of the Northwest High School staff. Suzanne has done several stints with different military branches. She first got into the United States Army School of Music right after high school. Later, she also served in the Marine Corps and again in the Army. She retired from service in 2015 from Ft Knox, Kentucky.

 

 

 

 

James BeckerJames Becker calls Waukee High School his home away from home. He enlisted in Chicago, Illinois after graduating from high school at the age of 17. He served on active duty in the United States Coast Guard from 1962 to 1966.

 

 

 

 

Theresa Lara

Theresa Lara is part of the Timberline School staff. She bravely served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Field Radio Operator from 1988 to 1992.
