Understanding the New Fee Structure for Damaged Technology Devices

The Waukee CSD 1:1 technology program provides each student with a device. But what happens if your child’s device gets damaged or lost? The District has a comprehensive repair warranty to cover these unfortunate events, but it’s important to understand the details of that policy to avoid unexpected costs.

How Many Device Damage Incidents Are Covered Per Year?

The District’s repair warranty is designed to provide peace of mind by covering up to two instances of device damage per school year. Whether it’s a cracked screen or any other accidental damage, the District has you covered — twice. You will be notified via email if your child experiences two instances of damage.

What Happens After the Third Incident?

If your child experiences a third instance of damage within the same school year, a parent or guardian will be responsible for paying a fee. The District reserves the right to charge the student and parents/guardians the full and actual cost for repair or replacement (whichever is less). Our technology team sets the fees for various technology items in advance.

What About Lost or Damaged Accessories?

The case, charging cable, adapter, and other items that come with the device are included in the coverage. If any of these items are lost or damaged, there will be a fee for their replacement. It’s a good idea to regularly check that all accessories are accounted for and in good condition. Parents and guardians should never buy replacement items for their child’s Waukee CSD device. Please notify your child’s school’s main office if something is damaged or lost.

What about Intentional Damage?

Intentional misconduct could include situations where a student deliberately damages the device. If this is found to be the case by the District administration, fees may be issued before reaching the three-strikes policy.

Overall, please encourage your child to handle their device with care. If you have questions about your fees, please call the District Office at 515-987-5161 to talk with our business office. If you are assessed fees for a student technology device, you can pay those through RevTrak.
