Dr. Buck’s Bulletin: January 2025

Dr Buck's Bulletin Banner

Dear Waukee CSD Families,

We’re kicking off 2025 with something exciting: Choose Waukee, a new campaign that shines a spotlight on everything that makes Waukee CSD special. From our dedicated staff to our commitment to preparing students for the future — Choose Waukee is all about showcasing what sets us apart and why parents like you choose our District.

It’s thanks to your support that we’ve become the District we are today. If you’ve witnessed an inspiring teacher, a staff member who went above and beyond for your child, or a unique experience that helped your child grow — please share it with others! Your story could help new families who are looking for the right place for their kids. And, if there are areas where you feel we could improve, we’re all ears. Please take a moment to submit your feedback through our digital suggestion box.

As a reminder, we are now enrolling new students for preschool, transitional kindergarten (NEW!), and kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year. Visit our website to learn more.

Thank you for choosing Waukee. Together, let’s keep making our District a place where every student feels welcomed, inspired, and ready to succeed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brad Buck
Superintendent

Important Information

Review Your Bus Enrollment

We’re asking families to review their current bus enrollment to help the District optimize our services and reduce costs. If your child’s transportation needs have changed since the start of the school year, please complete the Transportation Request Form on our website. You can also reach out to Durham School Services at 515-987-2788. To review your current bus selection, log in to PowerSchool. Thank you for helping us manage our resources efficiently!

Student Mental Health Update

A total of 208 Waukee CSD students utilized onsite therapy services during the first semester (compared to 212 students served during the entire school year in 2023-24). Our District welcomed additional counselors this school year to better support students’ needs, and we’re grateful for their dedication to meeting the growing demand. To find support for your child, check out the Mental Health section in Family Resources or locate your child’s counselor in our directory.

Safety & Security

School Resource Officers

Waukee CSD proudly partners with the Waukee Police Department to provide School Resource Officer (SRO) programming. SROs are local law enforcement officers who work closely with administrators to create safety for students and staff. These officers work to bridge the gap between police and students by building relationships while protecting our school buildings. They provide security, respond to calls for service, document incidents, and give presentations on youth-related issues.
