2025 Winter Sports Recap
Waukee CSD athletes capped off another great winter season! We’re thrilled to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments. Check out the highlights from Waukee High School’s and Northwest High School’s winter varsity sports:
Swimming
In their first season as separate teams, WHS and NWHS qualified for the state meet. WHS placed 3rd, while NWHS finished 5th. Several swimmers earned CIML All-Conference honors:
- John Trosper (WHS) – 1st Team 50y Free and 100y Back
- Lex Plasier (WHS) – 1st Team 100y free and 3rd Team 100y back
- Lathen Schwickerath (WHS) – 2nd Team 200y IM
- Dylan Allen (WHS) – 3rd Team 100y breast
Wrestling
Raccoon River Wrestling dominated the mats, winning a state title and setting a new state record with 160 points! The NWHS boys team placed 3rd at state duals and qualified 12 wrestlers for the state tournament. While the WHS boys team qualified 7 wrestlers for the state tournament.
Basketball
The NWHS girls basketball team advanced to the state semifinals, with two players earning All-State honors:
- Romey Croatt (NWHS) – 1st Team
- Emilie Sorensen (WHS) – 3rd Team
Both WHS and NWHS boys basketball teams qualified for the state tournament. NWHS reached the championship game but fell to Valley, 47-61. Several Waukee CSD players earned All-State honors:
- Peyton McCollum (NWHS) – 1st Team
- Evan Jacobson (WHS) – 2nd Team
- Bode Goodman (NWHS) – 2nd Team
- Landon Davis (NWHS) – 3rd Team
Bowling
The girls and boys bowling teams capped off their seasons with 3rd place finishes at state. A standout highlight — NWHS junior Reid Jackson bowled a perfect game earlier in the season! Several students were selected to the CIML All-Conference teams:

- Morgan Lowry – 1st Team
- Wren Starmer – 1st Team
- Macy Devereaux – 2nd Team
- Maya Martin – 3rd Team

- Colin Derdowski – 2nd Team
Dance Team
The NWHS dance team won state in the contemporary and lyrical categories. They also made history at UDA Nationals in Orlando with their 4th place finish in pom. The WHS dance team made program history at NDA Nationals in Orlando with their top 20 placements in jazz and hip hop.
Esports
The NWHS Overwatch 2 team wrapped up their season securing 4th place at the state tournament. Meanwhile, the Varsity Rocket League team also had a strong finish, earning 3rd place at the state tournament. The WHS Overwatch 2 team also qualified for state.
